Mei Jia Chinese Learning Center is a multi-faceted Mandarin language and Chinese cultural learning center. We offer before and after school Mandarin programs, summer camp, and weekend programs for K-8th graders at different ages and levels. We maintain a very low teacher-to-student ratio so that each student will have individualized instruction. Many students in our program have passed the AP Chinese Exam, continued Mandarin as a language subject in college, and won many awards in Chinese calligraphy and poetry contests, such as the Chinese Bridge Cup Recital and Calligraphy Contests, and CLTAC (Chinese Language Teachers Association of California) Mandarin Speech Contests, etc
Here are some videos of Mandarin programs for your viewing.
Mandarin Program at Rooftop
Language is best learned through social interaction and meaningful activities. Our highly- trained, caring teachers provide an enriching environment and engaging curriculum that immerses the children in Chinese language and culture. Students will have academic Mandarin lessons as well as fun activities related to Chinese culture and history, such as Chinese calligraphy, art and crafts, etc. The students will acquire Mandarin language and literacy skills through songs, poems, chants and stories.
At Rooftop, we group students by both age and Mandarin language proficiency to ensure each child is placed in the most supportive and engaging learning environment. During the first week of class, we will spend time observing your child in the classroom. If we feel a different level may be a better fit, we will always discuss it with you first to make sure your child feels comfortable and supported. 🌿 Which class is right for my child?Intermediate – This class is designed for students in 1st grade and above who can already understand conversational Mandarin. The goal is for students to feel comfortable learning primarily in Mandarin, as the teacher will speak mostly Mandarin during class. Students typically have exposure to Mandarin at home or have participated in a Mandarin immersion program for at least two years. Beginning – This class is for students who have little or no prior exposure to Mandarin. Instruction is gentle and supportive, with the teacher using approximately 80% Mandarin and 20% English to help students build confidence and understanding. 📅 Program Schedule: Tuesday and Thursday | 3:45–4:45 PM
