About Yick Wo Mandarin Program The after school Mandarin program at Yick Wo provides a warm and relaxed learning experience. The teacher will facilitate the children’s learning through Chinese art, songs, games, stories, and other age-appropriate activities. These classes will be taught entirely in Mandarin, so that students will be immersed in a Chinese-speaking environment. Through meaningful content and engaging activities, children will acquire Chinese fluency and the disposition to be life-long learners of the language. The classes will meet 2 times a week. Please note that there is a minimum of 8 students required to enroll in order to host the class at Yick Wo. Curriculums: Language is best learned through social interaction and meaningful activities. Our highly- trained, caring teachers provide an enriching environment and engaging curriculum that immerses the children in Chinese language and culture. Students will have academic Mandarin lessons as well as fun activities related to Chinese culture and history, such as Chinese painting, other art and crafts, etc. The students will acquire Mandarin language and literacy skills through songs, poems, chants and stories. Class Time: Tuesday & Thursday 4:00-5:00 pm Note: If there are less than 8 signups, the class will be cancelled Tuition : $550 Books and Material Fee: $60 / year Pickup:The Chinese teacher will bring everyone out to the lobby after class for pickup. Whoever is not picked up will be sent immediately to extended care. Which class is right for me?
Intermediate class – This class is for students who can understand the basic conversational Mandarin, as the goal is for the teacher to be speaking Mandarin in class. Students should either have exposure speaking Mandarin at home or have previously participated in a Mandarin-immersion program.
Beginning – This class is for students who have no or some prior exposure to Mandarin. The teacher will be speaking a combination of 80% Mandarin and 20% English.
