                           About Us 关于我们

Mei Jia Chinese Learning Center is a multi-faceted Mandarin language and Chinese cultural learning center. We offer Morning program for preschoolers, after school program for elementary students, summer camp, and weekend program for all students at different ages and levels. We maintain a very low teacher-to-student ratio so that each student will have individualized instruction. Many students in our program have passed the AP Chinese Exam, continued Mandarin as a language subject in college, and won many awards in Chinese calligraphy and poetry contests, such as the Chinese Bridge Cup Recital and Calligraphy Contests, and CLTAC (Chinese Language Teachers Association of California) Mandarin Speech Contests, etc. Please check out our activity photos here.

Due to COVID-19, Mei Jia Chinese Learning Center and San Francisco Chinese Academy temporarily moved classes online. Starting from April to now, our programs and summer camp programs were held online and they were very successful! We have received lots of great feedback from the current students and parents, and we have also made changes based on these feedback and suggestions to make our Mandarin online classes fun and interesting.
In order to make lessons more active and engaging for the students, we have added other elements and activities that are not computer screen-based. Although still virtual, we have implemented follow-along style educational activities, such as Chinese art craft, Chinese Kungfu, Chinese tradition cooking, dance and movement, games and songs, and many more. This way, our students will have a balance of academic learning and fun, educational experiences to keep them interested.
Re-opening of Small Group Registration OPEN NOW                                      In-Person Mandarin learning Beginning in Jan. 2021
Continuation of Online Mandarin Courses via Zoom

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, our program offered distance learning via Zoom instead of in-person instruction to help reduce the spread of the virus throughout the community. During this time, we have been working to put safety plans in place for the eventual return of in-person learning. We are planning to reopen small in group learning in January, 2021 for children who are interested in in-person instructions. We will adhere to our guidelines and make sure all students, parents, and staff are kept in a safe environment.

In the coming school year, we will provide in person Mandarin program, and continue incorporating online teaching into our programs. We have adjusted the class times and curriculum according to the latest arrangement from the San Francisco Unified School District and based on the needs of parents and children. Besides regular academic learning of Mandarin, we will also add fun activities to keep the students active and engaged, but with safety measures in place. As usual, we will cultivate an immersion based environment, enabling our students to learn Chinese in an authentic and natural way.

Our teachers are selected with strict standards. They are all native Mandarin speakers and have many years of teaching experience both in China and America.

We are excited to have you join our Mandarin learning family. Please see below for the classes we are offering, and how we are changing our program to ensure the safety of our students, parents, and staff.

For the coming semester, we will provide the following courses

                  In-Person After school program
课后中文班

The after school Mandarin program provides a warm and relaxed learning experience. Our teachers facilitate the children’s learning through Chinese art, songs, games, stories, and other age-appropriate activities. Students are grouped according to their grades, language proficiency, test evaluation, and teachers suggestion. Students learn Mandarin just as they learn English--by living it. These classes will be taught entirely in Mandarin, so that students will be immersed in a Chinese-speaking environment. Through meaningful content and engaging activities, children will acquire Chinese fluency and the disposition to be life-long learners of the language.

*Note: Because of COVID-19, we only accept 12 students in the in-person Mandarin program.
